US wants to impose additional sanctions on Myanmar after deadliest day of protest | NOW

The US government will come up with “additional actions” in the coming days in response to the recent coup violence in Myanmar. That said the US national security adviser Jake Sullivan on Sunday.

Sullivan said he was in the process of imposing additional charges on those responsible for this recent outbreak of violence and the coup.

In the coming days more will become clear about what the additional actions entail. Washington previously imposed sanctions on Myanmar’s military leaders over the coup.

Security forces opened fire on demonstrating civilians in several places in Myanmar on Sunday. At least 18 people have been killed and 30 injured, according to the United Nations Human Rights Office, with local sources previously reporting at least 11 deaths. As far as is known, this is the deadliest day since the beginning of the mass protests against the military coup.
