The Supreme Court decision was immediately condemned by US President Joe Biden. He said he was “deeply disappointed” by the Supreme Court ruling. “The ruling is against both common sense and the Constitution. It should alarm us all deeply.”
Biden added that, after the many mass shootings in the US, the country should do just more, not less, to limit the availability of firearms.
Several New York officials, including New York Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul, also criticized the decision. “It is outrageous that the Supreme Court has recklessly repealed this law in New York at a time of national reckoning with gun violence,” she wrote on Twitter.
