US sues 21-year-old Swiss for hacking 150,000 cameras | Abroad

By hacking into video surveillance companies, Kottman along with accomplices earlier this month gained access to an estimated 150,000 cameras in more than 100 institutions or companies. It concerns many cases in the US because the American security guard Verkada was hacked.

Advanced Persistent Threat 69420

Kottman belongs to a hacker collective that has made itself heard more often and calls itself Advanced Persistent Threat 69420. The hacker says she operates “out of curiosity, out of a struggle for freedom of information, out of a hefty dose of anti-capitalism with a pinch of anarchy.”

But the Public Prosecution Service in Washington sees it differently. A ‘cyber task force’ of intelligence services FBI has already raided the hacker’s home in Lucerne together with the Swiss police, according to Swiss media. “Stealing credentials and stealing confidential or sensitive information and publishing it on the Internet is not freedom of expression, but theft and fraud,” said a Washington law enforcement spokesman.
