New York. After numerous delays, one of two planned trials against R&B singer R. Kelly could begin this summer. The judge in charge gave the green light on Thursday to move the 54-year-old from Chicago to New York. The procedure is to start there on August 9th.
Sex video with minors
Prosecutors in Brooklyn, New York City, accuse Kelly of hiring bodyguards, managers and other employees to bring him underage girls to have sex with. The second trial against Kelly, which is due to begin in Chicago in the fall, concerns sex videos the musician allegedly made of himself and underage girls, as well as alleged bribery of witnesses in an earlier trial. Kelly denies ever having sexually assaulted anyone.
The 54-year-old has been in custody since his arrest in July 2019. Several trial dates against him in both cities had to be postponed due to the corona. Kelly’s requests to have him released on bail in the meantime have been denied.
