Secretary of State Anthony Blinken noted that despite the retreat of Russian troops from the Kyiv area and the victory of Ukrainian forces, Russia’s war against Ukraine is “far from over.”

“The United States, its allies and partners must act now to increase additional military assistance as Ukraine prepares for the next phase of the fight for its freedom and its very future,” Blinken said.

The Secretary of State, on behalf of President Joe Biden, approved the transfer to Ukraine of a new, seventh in a row, starting from August 2021, package military aid worth $800 million.

The new package reflects the wishes of the Ukrainian government, which has requested the supply of artillery, armored vehicles, helicopters and coastal defense drones, and also includes military support equipment, anti-tank weapons, radar equipment, tactical drones, body armor and military medical equipment.

With today’s package, the Joe Biden administration has already provided more than $3.2 billion in security assistance to Ukraine, including more than $2.5 billion following the Russian invasion, according to Anthony Blinken.

“We remain in close contact with Ukraine and support President Zelensky’s intention to engage in diplomatic means that could lead to a cessation of attacks and the withdrawal of Russian troops,” Blinken said. .

The Secretary of State noted that Russia had failed in trying to realize its original plans – the capture of Kyiv and the enslavement of the entire country. However, “it’s too early to relax,” Blinken warned.

“The United States and the international community will turn Putin’s war into a long-term strategic failure for the Kremlin,” the head of the State Department added.
