Dhe thing is only a formality, but order has to be maintained. During their party convention, which starts on Monday, the Republicans become Donald Trump, 74, to nominate her presidential candidate. The Democrats recently met virtually for four days, but the Republicans in Charlotte, North Carolina, are meeting in real life – albeit on a much smaller scale than planned.
The President will also show himself here and talk, if only briefly. He wants to give his actual address after the nomination in the White House on Thursday. In an email appeal for donations (“confidential … do not share”) to – probably millions – fans, Trump announced that this speech would “be different from everyone else”.
He continues: “Your president is in the middle of an all-out political war with the radical left, and they are working overtime with the fake news media to bring me down.”

Originally, Trump had a colorful, huge nomination party convention planned in Charlotte. As the state governor, a Democrat, on the distance rules as a result of the Covid-Epidemie pointed out, Trump angrily moved the event to Jacksonville, Florida. The Republicans rule there.
But the state was so badly hit by Covid-19 in the summer that even the Republicans canceled the planned mass event in Jacksonville.
Charlotte was at least a rump party conference. The Republican Party asked attendees to stay home as much as possible before their August 6 trip to avoid the risk of corona infection.

In the United States, more than 170,000 people have died as a result of the epidemic, and over 5.5 million have become infected. Trump downplayed the epidemic and once announced that the virus would disappear “like a miracle”. The crisis resulted in the worst recession since the Great Depression.
Speakers at the Republican Congress include Vice Presidents Mike Pence, who is also running again, and former UN ambassador Nikki Haley, who is considered a possible presidential candidate in 2024.
But the party congress will above all be a family celebration. Speeches are expected from First Lady Melania Trump, daughters Ivanka and Tiffany Trump, and sons Donald Jr. and Eric Trump.

Tim Scott, the only black among the 53 Republican senators, will appear. Mark and Patricia McCloskey will also speak. The white St. Louis couple gained national fame in June after pointing guns at protesters on their private street. Since then, the McCloskeys have been considered heroes of “conservative” America.
The Democrats, who recently nominated ex-Vice President Joe Biden, 77, as their candidate, want to get attention with speeches from their leaders during the Republican event. However, they do without media-oriented rallies for their Trump-style campaign.
Reason should include Nancy Pelosi, spokeswoman for the House of Representatives. It was still unclear whether Biden or Kamala Harris, the candidate for the office of Vice President, would make the speech.
