Trump’s advisor Hope Hicks has previously tested positive on the corona virus, after which the president and his wife also had themselves tested. Trump announced via Twitter that they would both immediately go into isolation. “We’ll get through it together.”
The White House doctor reports that the president is doing well and that he can continue his work from his official residence. It is unclear whether Trump is showing symptoms of COVID-19.
At first, the president said he did not know whether he would be quarantined as a precaution because of Hicks’ contamination, but later said he was preparing for this.
Trump’s positive test could be politically painful for him. The president has said repeatedly that the virus will disappear on its own and that scientists are overestimating the situation. He also refused to wear a face mask for months.
