US Police Release Car Photos of Suspected Murderer of 4 Muslim Men in New Mexico

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Alburquerque Police, New MexicoThe United States (US) is hunting for the vehicle used by the alleged perpetrators of the murder of four Muslim men. Albuquerque police released photos of the vehicle suspected of being used in the murder, and hope residents can help identify it.

Police said the vehicle being sought was a dark gray or silver four-door Volkswagen with dark tinted windows. Mayor Tim Keller said police believe the vehicle was used in Friday night’s killing of a Muslim man in Albuquerque.

“We have very, very strong suspicions. We have found a vehicle that may be linked. We have to find this vehicle,” said Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller as reported by Reuters. CBC News Monday 8 August 2022.

Police are still investigating whether there is a link between the killing of a Muslim man last Friday night in Albuquerque, and the ambush shootings that have killed three Muslim men over the past nine months.

Police on Saturday said the victim in the fourth murder was a Muslim from South Asia believed to be in his mid-20s. The man, whose identity has not been confirmed by investigators, was found dead after police received reports of the shooting.

CNN reported that a fourth victim, Naeem Hussain, 25, was found dead by Albuquerque police responding to reports of shootings before midnight Friday. He became the third Muslim man to be killed in the city in the span of two weeks, and the fourth since November 2021.

Although there was no description of the killer, Albuquerque police said Hussain’s death was “probably linked” to three previous killings of Muslim men from South Asia.

Naeem Hussain migrated as a refugee from Pakistan in 2016 — fleeing persecution as a Shia Muslim — and only became a US citizen last month, according to his brother-in-law, Ehsan Shahalami.

“He is the most generous, kind, giving, patient, and humble person I have ever met,” Shahalami said. “He’s a very hard worker. He shares whatever he makes with his family at home.”

The young man, who opened his own trucking business this year, plans to bring his wife from Pakistan and buy some properties in Virginia, Shahalami said.

On the day he was killed, Hussain attended funerals for two other Muslim men who were recently killed in the city, according to Tahir Gauba, director of public affairs at the Islamic Center of New Mexico.

Earlier this week, police confirmed that local detectives and federal law enforcement officers were looking into possible links between the four separate murders. Two of the dead, namely Muhammad Afzaal Hussain (27 years) and Aftab Hussein (41 years) died in the past week. Both are from Pakistan and are members of the same mosque.

While the third case involved the murder of Mohammad Ahmadi (62 years) a Muslim man of South Asian descent. Ahmadi were killed last November.

Police declined to say whether the killing of Naeem Hussain on Friday night was carried out in a manner similar to the previous deaths of three Muslim men.

Authorities said they could not determine whether the shooting was related to religious or racial hatred. “We will bring the perpetrators to justice,” said the Governor New MexicoMichelle Lujan Grisham.
