The 34-year-old Djokovic could win the calendar Grand Slam as the first tennis player in 52 years and the third in history. So far, only in 1938, the American Don Budge and twice the Australian Rod Laver in 1962 and 1969. He also came to watch the final match, he wanted to be the first to shake a Serb’s hand if Djokovic succeeded. But this plan did not work.

At the US Open, Djokovic sought a fourth triumph. Overall, he advanced to the 31st Grand Slam final and equaled Roger Federer’s record, with which he and Rafael Nadal also share a record with 20 Grand Slam titles. Because he did not manage the final, he remains on the same goal.

Russian tennis player Medvedev started the match better. He served well and in addition in the first game he took the service of the famous Serb. The deployed two benefited from the cannon serve and collected fifties without the slightest problem, Djoker was not entitled to even think about the chance to take back the lost serve. So it was no wonder that Medvedev controlled the first set with a ratio of 6: 4.

The second set had already offered ttocha a different spectacle. The possibility of breaks was on both sides. But he was the only one used. In the fifth game, Medvěděv broke the opponent’s serve and immediately confirmed the break with a clean game. The Russian was confident, not afraid to take risks, and was rewarded with important points. He often encouraged himself with a clenched fist and celebrated success. Djokovic tried everything possible, but at the moment the opponent found the answer to practically everything the Serb played.

Although the fans enthusiastically applauded during the great exchanges, they also often shook their heads at the resultant dominance of the Russian player. Such a course of the finals was probably not expected even by the greatest optimist in the Medvedev camp. He won the service of Djokovic twice at the start of the third set, on the contrary, he himself was still sure of the service, which meant his lead 4: 0.

Manko then shrank to a single game and the audience was boiling. She felt a chance that the final match could be extended. Fans and Djokovic looked forward in vain. The Russian did not allow any further complications and finished the finals during the service. After the match, he collapsed on the court and with his tongue out enjoyed winning the grand slam tournament.

“I’m nervous, I’m experiencing it for the first time in my life. In addition, I have to apologize to Novak, we all know what he was talking about in the final,” he said on the podium, where the finalists received trophies. He then paid a huge tribute to Djokovic. “I haven’t told anyone yet, but you are Novak’s best player in tennis history,” added Rus, also thanking the fans and his team.

If anyone deserved the triumph, it was him,” the Serb said, saying that his winners still had a great career and lots of victories.

The moved Djoker thanked the fans. “It didn’t turn out the way I wanted in the finals. But thanks to you, I feel best in New York now. I’ve never felt so good here before. I love you, I’ll see you again soon,” he added.

Stosur won the doubles after 16 years

In today’s final, they beat 6: 3, 3: 6, 6: 3 with 17-year-old Cori Gauff and 19-year-old Catherine McNally. The young Americans thus failed to build on the sensational victory of 18-year-old Emmy Raducanu in singles.
