REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, WASHINGTON — United States (US) infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci said that Omicron, a variant of the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) that causes infectious disease Covid-19 has swept across the world. He warned that the spread could continue and leave health facilities unable to handle the spike in cases.
Fauci said that everyone in America should be vaccinated immediately. A wave of viral infections can occur quickly, in contrast to the optimism projected by the US Government led by President Joe Biden 10 months ago, where he said that it was likely that Christmas on December 25 this year would be normal, without restrictions regarding the Covid-19 pandemic.
Fauci said that the hope of returning to normal was acceptable. However, one thing that is known at this time is that conditions cannot be predicted regarding the spread of Covid-19, considering the situation during the last two years of the pandemic.

Fauci said that people who had been vaccinated and got a third or booster dose should be fine, if they followed health protocols such as wearing masks in public areas.
According to Fauci, it is possible that the spike in Covid-19 cases is due to Omicron. Therefore, he emphasized that it was important for the public to get a booster and the availability of Covid-19 testing or tests to be increased.
The Omicron variant has frightened the world again. Although the severity has not been shown to exceed the delta variant, Omicron spreads more rapidly.
