ACCEPTANCE United States of America (AS), European Union and 20 countries condemned Taliban on charges of murder of former police and intelligence officers in Afghanistan .

The statement issued on Saturday came after Human Rights Watch (HRW) published a report documenting the killing or disappearance of at least 47 members of the Afghan National Security Forces.

The countries say they are deeply concerned about the allegations.

“The alleged actions constitute serious human rights violations and run counter to the amnesty the Taliban announced for former Afghan officials,” they underlined as quoted by Al Jazeera, Sunday (12/5/2021).

They also called on the Taliban to effectively enforce amnesty for former members of the Afghan security forces and former government officials to ensure that it is enforced throughout the country and across their ranks. They also called for a speedy and transparent investigation into the reported killings.

Those countries include Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, UK and Ukraine.

The Taliban took power in Afghanistan last August when the US-backed government in Kabul collapsed after American troops fled the country.

The armed group, seeking international recognition, has promised rules will be different from those of the previous time when they came to power in the 1990s, which included public stoning, amputation of limbs for suspected criminals and a ban on women’s education.

But the new government has continued to carry out violent punishments, and the United Nations has expressed concern about “credible allegations” that the Taliban have carried out retaliatory killings since their victory.
