American director Lynn Shelton, best known for independent films like “Humpday” and “My Best Friend, Her Sister and I”, died at the age of 54. The filmmaker died on Friday of a previously undiagnosed blood disease, her spokesman Adam Kersh said according to the “Hollywood Reporter”. Her partner, comedian Marc Maron, told Indiewire.com that Shelton had collapsed after a week of illness. It was not Covid-19, it said in its message.

“I am completely shocked that this dynamic, talented and soulful filmmaker is no longer with us,” Reese Witherspoon wrote on Instagram on Saturday. The Oscar winner and Shelton most recently worked on the mini-series “Little Fires Everywhere”. Colleagues like Chloe Moretz, Mindy Kaling and Mark Duplass were also dismayed and recognized their talent.

Author, producer and director

Shelton made her directorial debut in 2006 with the film drama “We Go Way Back”. Her buddy comedy “Humpday” with Mark Duplass was awarded a prize at the Sundance Festival 2009. The author, producer and director has also appeared on numerous television series, including “Mad Men”, “The Mindy Project”, “Love” and “GLOW”. She had a son from her marriage to actor Kevin Seal.
