US Court “North Korea Reimburses 2.3 Billion Dollars for’Pueblo Capture’”

Decision on the largest amount of compensation in North Korea
The Washington Federal Court ruled on the 24th (local time) on the 24th (local time) that North Korea pay 2.3 billion dollars (about 2.58 trillion won) to about 170 members of the U.S. Navy intelligence-gathering vessel Pueblo and his family. It is the largest ever in North Korea-related compensation. The previous highest amount was $51.13 million in the auto-warmbeer case of an American college student who died in 2017 after being detained in North Korea and released. According to the Voice of the United States (VOA), the court issued a total of $76.63 million, including $13.10 million to $23.8 million per person, for 49 crew members, $22.5 million for 90 family members, and $179.21 million for 31 survivors. And the like were respectively recognized as compensation. However, it is unlikely that North Korea will acknowledge the ruling and pay compensation.

The Pueblo was captured by the North Korean naval account during a mission in the East Sea in January 1968. North Korea released 82 crew members and one remains only after signing an apology that the United States had invaded North Korean territorial waters in December of the same year. The crew filed this lawsuit in 2018.
