US Congressmen afraid of being murdered by extreme colleagues | Abroad

Several Democratic delegates in the United States fear for their lives after last week’s attack on the Capitol. Not only are they afraid of new threats from outside, but also of extreme Republican colleagues who would show threatening behavior.

Fear still reigns in political Washington. After the dismay at the storming of the Capitol by extreme supporters of President Donald Trump, a number of Democratic members of the United States Congress are now terrified that some of their Republican colleagues may end up killing them.

Virginia Democratic Deputy Don Beyer threw the bat into the coop. “Some of us are concerned that they could be shot by our own colleagues. Here is the most toxic atmosphere I have ever experienced ”, he told news channel NBC. There is a general sense of insecurity due to some Republican colleagues carrying weapons, Beyer said. “And probably those are those who endorse conspiracy theories and believe QAnon about pedophile satanic rings. Are we safe from them? ”

According to QAnon’s conspiracy theorists, any politician who opposes Donald Trump is suspected in advance and most likely involved in a major satanic plot to stop this president from fighting pedophilia and the deep state.

Some Democrats in Congress suggest – the allegations are unproven – that far-right colleagues and sympathizers of the Capitol stormers may have helped plan or supervise the attack. A petition for a formal investigation into this has now been signed by thirty delegates. The fact that security gates with metal detectors have been placed in the Capitol does not diminish the feeling of fear, Beyer said.

One of the people who frightens colleagues would be Republican Representative Lauren Boebert of Colorado, a former QAnon sympathizer and fiercely opposed to installing metal detectors in the Capitol. Boebert has explicitly distanced himself from QAnon several times, but refuses to go through the detection gates, because according to the American constitution she has the right to carry a weapon. There are more Republicans who reject the security gates for that reason. She has now been fined. Anyone who refuses to pass the metal detector the first time pays $ 5000, the second time 10,000, as President Nancy Pelosi has decided.

In an interview on CNN last night, Tim Ryan, a Democrat from the state of Ohio, also presented himself as a spokesperson for colleagues who are too afraid to appear on camera about this. “I can confirm that my colleagues are afraid of other members of Congress. They are already being called names, harassed and followed by telephone cameras by some. And now those people do not want to go through the gates with metal detectors. After all that’s happened, that’s the least you can do. We are experiencing extremely exciting times. When you are that scared, you see danger everywhere. The whole country is suffering, including Congressmen. I’m not afraid myself, but I know enough colleagues who are. ”

Also, Republican delegates who did not vote against Donald Trump’s impeachment procedure would also be threatened in recent days via social media and even at home by extremists who believe that Donald Trump and not Joe Biden should be president.
