US authorities report six dead in helicopter crash in West Virginia

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced this Thursday, June 23, the death of six people after the helicopter in which they were traveling crashed in the state of West Virginia.

The FAA said the aircraft, a Vietnam War-era Bell UH-1B, crashed Wednesday near Route 17 in Logan County around 5 p.m. in a wooded area in the region.

Ray Bryant, chief of operations for the Logan Emergency Ambulance Authority, said the wreckage was on fire when rescue teams arrived at the crash site.

The passengers were not locals, according to local television station WSAZ.

While the causes of the accident remain unknown, the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board assured that the facts are still under investigation.

The helicopter has reportedly been used for tourist flights.

The helicopter was owned by the Marpat Aviation company, which rented it to fans and tourists.

Precisely, this week he had organized an annual meeting for enthusiasts of the Huey, nickname of the helicopter.

The aircraft in question had tail number N98F and was built in 1962 and used during the Vietnam War. It also appears in movies like Die Hard, The Rock and Baywatch.
