US announces new $3 billion military aid package for Ukraine and $700 million in aid to European allies

The United States on Friday announced a new military aid package for Ukraine amounting to three billion dollars, the largest US military aid package to date for Ukraine, as well as nearly $700 million in support of the European allies.

White House Press Representative Karina Jeanpierre said the aid package would include Bradley fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers and self-propelled howitzers.

The online newspaper “Politico” previously reported that the aid package will also include “RIM-7 Sea Sparrow” guided missiles designed to intercept airborne targets.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced that the new aid package for Ukraine will consist of weapons and ammunition from US military reserves in the amount of $2.85 billion, while $225 million is earmarked for modernization of the Ukrainian army.

In addition, the United States will spend an additional $682 million in “support and compensation” to European allies for arms supplies to Ukraine.

Blinken confirmed that the Ukrainian aid package will include Bradley fighting vehicles, artillery systems, armored personnel carriers, anti-aircraft missiles and munitions.

As indicated in Blinken’s statement, with the new aid package, the total amount of US military aid to Ukraine has reached an unprecedented $24.9 billion.

The aim of the new aid package is to provide Ukraine with as much support as possible during the winter months before early spring, when the intensity of fighting is expected to increase, US officials said earlier.
