Urban gardens with a social vocation in Almansa

The Almansa City Council this week began the implementation of an urban garden in the courtyard of the local Youth Center, with a dual environmental and solidarity purpose, as explained yesterday by the councilor responsible for this initiative, Benjamín Calero. “On the one hand, the garden will serve to teach children and young people basic concepts of sustainability and respect for the environment – he explained – but at the same time, the vegetables that are produced will go to the soup kitchen.”

But that is only the beginning, because the intention of the Almansa City Council is that this orchard grows little by little as a young program, so that in the future specialized workshops will be offered on specific issues, such as the use of drip irrigation, conducting grafting or the sustainable use of fertilization.

“These workshops will arrive in the medium term, because we want the program to grow like the garden, little by little – he specified – because now we are very at the beginning, with two monitors and a small group of students; as stages are covered, the garden will grow, in size and in profits. ‘

Calero also indicated that the urban garden is part of a larger municipal program, called Youth for the Planet, and with which initiatives such as a vegan cooking workshop, another on essential oils or a fair have been launched in which all the objects that were for sale were recycled.
