When the capital’s government announced that next Tuesday the activities of 27 thousand businesses in perimeters A and B will be resumed, as well as six thousand vendors on public roads, the leader of the ambulatory in the Historic centerAlejandra Barrios Richard expressed her annoyance at the “drastic and arbitrary” measure.
He even sent a message to the head of the capital government, Claudia Sheinbaum: “Selling every day is our survival, not in stages. Our families do not eat one day yes, another day no, because although it seems unbelievable, we eat every day, “he emphasized with irony.
Interviewed by EL UNIVERSAL, the leader maintained that she and her members, “understand the issue of healthy distance, respect security measures so that the virus does not spread, but we, forgotten by her administration, have an urgent need to work. So let’s be clear, if we don’t die of the pandemic if we starve, “she warned.
He reminded Sheinbaum Pardo that “you, the officials of the federal and local government, have your secure salary, your benefits, vouchers, Christmas bonuses, etc., but not us, the vendors in the public space, we are up to date. That is why we are going to work some days yes and others no, because it seems drastic and arbitrary ”, he reiterated.
Faced with this attitude of the Head of Government, “of having deaf ears”, she addressed the President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, “we turn to you and ask you to open your agenda so that we receive the leaders of popular trade in the City of Mexico ”, he demanded.
It should be remembered that this Tuesday, the established commerce and the ambulatory will reopen, for which the capital government will enable 30 emerging pedestrian streets in the Historic Center –with a total of 43–, while another 12 more will be flexible, although half the stream It will be exclusively for passers-by.
Said measure, clarified the authority, is in order to avoid crowds and guarantee a healthy distance in the resumption of commercial activities.
The Secretary of the Government, Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez, explained that they agreed that commercial activity will be limited to 50%, with a scheme in which businesses with even numbers open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, while the odd ones will do so on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, alternately every week from 11:00 to 17:00, with sanitary security measures.
With this, they hope to reduce to 300 thousand people the daily influx in the area, which on ordinary days is two million visitors.
While in the case of the six thousand traveling merchants, the capital government reported that they agreed that they will also do so in a staggered manner, for which they will divide the eastern part of the Historic Center into three sections: north, center and south, with the intention of that each polygon only operates two days a week.
Street vendors may only place their stalls on 1.20 by 2 meter racks and on the sidewalk opposite open merchant establishments.
“We want to see it optimistically, the good of health first and the good of the economy later. For this reason, they cannot imagine, the participation of merchants from the Historic Center for the fulfillment of sanitary measures is one hundred. We hope you don’t relax them later. We have spoken is that they are very prepared with the necessary equipment for their employees to face the emergency. What they require is that there be employment and economic reactivation of the Historic Center, “said Rodríguez Velázquez.

However, Diana Sánchez Barrios, another of the leaders of commerce on public roads in the Historic Center, insisted that the Chief Executive receive them, “because we continue to be marginalized and there is proof with these measures. You who say you are protector of the humblest class, I ask you to listen to us, they criticize us, but they do not listen to us ”, he emphasized.
He commented that “we are going to take to the streets in fear of being hit by the grenadiers, the policemen who are under the command of Claudia Sheinbaum. Selling every day is our survival, not in stages. Our families do not eat one day, yes, another day the family does not eat every day, “agreed with her mother, Alejandra Barrios Richard.
“Given the contempt, discrimination and no support, as well as the stigmatization that the vendors in the public space are criminals, by the local government,” Sánchez Barrios recalled that days ago, on behalf of more than 10,000 merchants, he presented complaints to the Council to Prevent and Eliminate Discrimination in Mexico City (COPRED) and the Human Rights Commission of the capital (CDHCM) for the aforementioned events, to which no response has been obtained so far.
