UPDATE: Now begins the DEFINITIVE DESTRUCTION, with the bulldozer, of the Romanian coast. Economic operators are desperate: We will be forced to close. Nobody understands

UPDATE 1: At 20.00, the great attack on Romanian tourism began! Romanian Waters and the Constanța Gendarmerie stormed the economic operators on the beach. They took their sunbeds and put machines in to destroy everything. Tourists have no choice but to spend their vacation … in the desert, and to reach the sea they have to travel half a kilometer.

Bogdan Chirieac commented on this topic, live, on România TV.

“It is the way of Romanian Waters, of the Ministry of Environment, of the Cîțu Government to support tourism in Romania. Congratulations! People can no longer walk on the Romanian coast, they have to go to Bulgaria or Greece. Those who destroyed the beaches in Romania should deal with the undersigned at DNA! Some demented people were able to do what they did with the Romanian coast “, said Bogdan Chirieac.

Initial news:

Several beach administrators in Mamaia took risks and moved the sunbeds closer to the water, although they are not allowed to do so. They received fines throughout July, and now they are trying to destroy them permanently. Traders are no longer allowed to operate, and tourists are forced to walk 500 meters to the beach. Practically, the total termination of the business on the Romanian coast is being tried.

The beach operators, dissatisfied with the fact that the areas they rented no longer extend to the water, but are even far from it, have placed sunbeds and umbrellas on the new beach, to please customers.

This in the context in which the enlarged beach area has not been registered, so not even tabulated yet, aspects that have made it impossible to organize tenders for its rental. Basically, the state did nothing, and the beach administrators were left to fend for themselves, trying to somehow survive.

ABADL inspectors, notification for beach operators

Now the Dobrogea-Litoral Water Basin Administration has sent a notification to all commercial operators who have small businesses in Mamaia. It must urgently vacate the occupied beach area “which is not the subject of the rental agreement, then proceed to clean up the area and restore the beach to its original state”.

As expected, so far the traders have not complied with the request, so that starting today, at 20:00, the facilities located on the beach area for which no technical-legal documents are held will be collected by ABADL.

Thus, tonight, the operators will actually be taken up with the bulldozers, after being fined all summer. It is a total chaos on the Romanian coast, with the widening of the beach, and no one does anything but give fines and dust what is left.

Bogdan Chirieac is of the opinion that the action seems to be against Romanian tourism, to destroy what is left of it: “I have the impression that someone wants to destroy, at any cost, Romanian tourism and operators to be taken out of economic rules.”

Who will bear the costs of this action? Everyone who has a small business on the beach and is trying to survive

Editor Andrada Oana contacted a coastal operator to see what the situation looks like through the eyes of a man directly affected by these changes and decisions.

“They did all this beach enlargement, beach widening, without an impact study in the first place. Then we had to renovate the beach bars at our own expense. They ruined everything I had there. Before, I was 20-30 meters up to the water. We now have 300 meters. Between us and water is like a desert. Not to mention the quality of the sand! In fact, before we had sand, now, all of a sudden, we have shells. I don’t understand why it was done. Or even if this widening of the beaches was done, I don’t understand why in one part it widened by 50 meters, and in another by 300 meters. From 50 meters to 300 meters … a very long distance! In this heat, no one wants to go! The customer refuses to walk unless he is standing by the water. What I don’t think is right is that people with sheets are allowed, and we, as operators who actually pay rent at the beach, are not allowed to use it.. ”, Said one of the operators on the seaside.

He also told us that, due to the increase, the season has been shortened, and now they only have three weeks left

“It simply came to our notice then. We had no discount, we still pay the beach rent. This year, due to the increase, our season has been shortened. We were allowed to open the beaches on July 1st. I had only one problem this season. In addition, there are three more weeks of the season. I understand that it is not legal to put there, but the client wants there! Customers took their sunbeds there … they are theirs. ‘, Said the operator for Andrada Oana, DC News editor.

Asked if he thought about what he would do next, given the situation, the economic operator told us that if they were forced to move from the beach, they would close.

“If they come to say that they will demolish or that they will give us more fines, because they gave us more, we will be forced to close! Otherwise, it is not worth it “, concluded the operator from the seaside, specifying that everyone in the guild is facing these problems and that” nobody understands “.

DC News editor Andrei Itu also discussed with Roberto Tortora, beach operator, about this topic:

“On the one hand, they want to fine us, but also to dismantle the accessories on the beach. Today they sent the press release with a deadline, at 20.00. At the moment, the business is bankrupt because it is not possible to work in these conditions. Tourists simply come to see and leave. They don’t want to be on the beach. I requested the suspension of the contract, it was not accepted. It is not known for what reason. It’s probably a fear of taking responsibility. Therefore, man does what he can, what he considers. I don’t know what to say, who’s right, who’s not. What is certain is that the tourist and tourism suffer! Beach operators, bankrupt, that’s it, but tourists are leaving! At the moment, it is a bit deserted in Mamaia, there are not many tourists! ‘, Said Roberto Tortora, beach operator, for DC News.

Following the widening works, the Dobrogea-Litoral Water Basin Administration (ABADL) announced that the Mamaia resort has a new beach area of over 50 hectares from this summer season.

The works to widen the beaches were part of the project called Reducing coastal erosion, phase II (2014-2020), being implemented by the Dobrogea-Litoral Water Basin Administration. It is about reducing coastal erosion for 11 sectors: Edighiol / Periboina dams, Mamaia, Tomis-Casino, Agigea, Eforie, Costinesti, Olympus, Jupiter-Neptune, Mangalia-Venus-Aurora pond, Mangalia-Saturn, May 2. The project, co-financed by the Large Infrastructure Operational Program, has a value of 3.8 billion lei.

In March, the works were affected for a short time after the offshore area where the sand was extracted could no longer be exploited. DNA prosecutors say fragments with archaeological potential have been discovered in the depths. It could even be an ancient ship. The respective perimeter was verified in 2017 by archaeologists from the History Museum in Constanța, who sent the report to the Ministry of Culture.
