It’s getting hot in Austria! At the weekend up to 32 degrees are possible, but with the temperatures the risk of thunderstorms increases again.
At the weekend, warm air masses capture the Alpine region from the southwest, and the tendency to thunderstorms remains high, especially in the mountainous regions. On Sunday, a cold front is approaching from the west, which covers the entire country on Monday.
The sun initially shines on Saturday. Thunderstorms are already going through the west in the morning. From noon the tendency to showers and thunderstorms in mountain and hilly areas generally increases again, especially in the central and southern highlands, strong local thunderstorms. In contrast, it remains predominantly dry in the eastern lowlands and in the extreme southeast.
Mega heat on Sunday
Sunday brings a lot of sunshine and high summer heat, especially in the eastern lowlands. In the west, as well as in the mountain and hilly areas in general, heavy showers and thunderstorms form again from noon, which increasingly spread to the north side of the Alps in the evening. In the east and southeast, however, it remains mostly dry. The temperatures even rise up to 32 degrees.
On Monday it rains continuously from Vorarlberg via Upper Styria to the Weinviertel, especially in the first half of the day, sometimes heavily and sometimes thunderstormily. After a sunny start, showers and thunderstorms also spread from Carinthia to Burgenland in the second half of the day. Especially in the southeast there is a local risk of severe weather. The wind in the east refreshes strongly from west to northwest.
