Unusual: NASA wants to turn a lunar crater into a telescope

The POT he always goes several steps forward in terms of technology, but what is now in his plans seems unusual: they want to turn a lunar crater into a radio telescope, according to the same space agency.

The project is already designed. They have planned for the telescope to measure 3,281 feet inside a crater at the end of the Moon. They have named it the Lunar Crater Radio Telescope (LCRT).

According to NASA, it will be able to measure wavelengths and frequencies that cannot be detected from Earth, working unobstructed by the ionosphere or the other radio noise fragments that surround our planet.

“LCRT could allow tremendous scientific discoveries in the field of cosmology by looking at the early Universe in the 10–50m wavelength band (6–30MHz frequency band), which has so far not been explored by humans” , Robotics technologist Saptarshi Bandyopadhyay, a member of the NASA Propulsion Laboratory, wrote in a statement.

How would they do it?

NASA explained that through the lunar rovers, who would be responsible for carrying out the excavations. “A receiver suspended in the center of the crater would complete the system,” they explained. Also, everything would be automated.

However, everything is still in plans, undoubtedly a very ambitious project by NASA, which they hope to achieve.
