According to the news agency, the storms and tornado have torn the roofs off homes and almost leveled some neighborhoods. CNN writes that over 100,000 homes and businesses will be without power in the states of Mississippi, Tennessee and Alabama, after the storm.

– I’ve never seen anything like it, Brandy Showah, a resident of the hard-hit town of Rolling Fork, told CNN.

The tornado is said to have been moving at 80 km/h when it was over Rolling Fork, just after 8pm last night local time, according to CNN.

– The whole house shook, former mayor of Rolling Fork, Fred Miller told Fox Weather. Miller says in the interview that he and his wife hid in the bathroom, in the middle of the house, when the tornado hit.

– We heard the windows blow in, he says, and goes on to say that large parts of the city have been destroyed.

According to Miller, the rescue work is difficult. He says in the interview that trees are down and the roads are impassable.

The tornado first hit Silver City in Humphrey and Rolling Fork in Sharkey late Friday US time, then it has moved to Tchula in Holmes.

According to CNN, there have been 11 reports of tornadoes in Mississippi and in Alabama. CNN writes that it is still uncertain whether the storms have led to more tornadoes, or whether it is a large tornado that has moved far.
