Unlikely transfer stunt Fortuna: Turkish goal-getter Yilmaz to Sittard

Fortuna Sittard has caused a major stunt on the transfer market. The Limburg club, which barely maintained itself in the Eredivisie last season, has signed the experienced Turkish goalscorer Burak Yilmaz (36) for five years. He starts as a player and ends as a coach.

Yilmaz was considered one of the most dangerous strikers in the French Ligue 1 in previous seasons. On behalf of Lille, he scored three times in the Champions League last season.

Hat trick against the Netherlands

A year before that he was surprisingly champion with the northern French club and with sixteen goals Yilmaz had a major contribution to that achievement. He scored 31 goals for Turkey in 77 international matches, including a hat-trick against the Netherlands in March 2021.

And now he is moving to Sittard, which has picked him up on a free transfer. Turkish owner and chairman Isitan Gün persuaded him with a long-term contract. Yilmaz signs for two years as a player and three years as a starting trainer.

In the video below you can see how the brand new Fortuna striker Yilmaz puts Oranje over the knee with a hat trick.
