The exams at the University of St. Gallen (HSG) had unpleasant consequences for several people. Seven people were infected with the corona virus during the time when the university exams were written.
“Did the university consciously accept the threat?”
The HSG had not actively communicated the contagions. This is now criticized by Thomas Amman, head of the FDP parliamentary group in the St. Gallen cantonal parliament and medical doctor. In a simple request to the government, he wants to clarify why this information was withheld. “Homes, schools, football clubs and other institutions provide open information about corona infections. The fact that the university doesn’t do this bothers me, ”says Amman in“ St. Galler Tagblatt ».

Amman also questions that the university had its exams compulsory despite the known dangers. “Was the management of the university aware that by carrying out face-to-face examinations, it was at risk for both the risk groups and the population?”
–
HSG provided information internally
The University of St. Gallen does not want to let this reproach sit on it. Internally, students and staff were well informed about the events. During the central written tests, the cantonal doctor’s office informed the HSG about seven corona cases. The first case occurred in late June, the other cases in early July.
–
In response to the contagions, they were called to consistently observe the protective and hygienic measures. The exam candidates were also recommended to wear protective masks, writes the HSG communication center.

Attendance exams were the wish of the students
The university also writes that contact tracing was “immediate and problem-free” in the seven cases. No other contagions or quarantine cases are known. Thousands of students would have wished for the presence exams in order to complete the semester in time.

Because the chain of infection could be interrupted immediately, the HSG decided not to make a public announcement after consulting the cantonal medical office. The State Chancellery also confirms this: “From a medical point of view, there was no need for communication.” (cat)
