Düsseldorf / Berlin (dpa / lnw) – Students and schoolchildren in North Rhine-Westphalia can now apply digitally more easily. The Federal Ministry of Education and the Federal Ministry of the Interior gave the official go-ahead for the new online portal “Bafög Digital” on Monday. There, the state benefit can be applied for in a simplified procedure in a six-month pilot phase. This is now also possible in the federal states of Saxony-Anhalt, Berlin, Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate. Other countries are to follow later.
It is an “important step in the digitization of administrative processes” and helps students and schoolchildren to “significantly facilitate” access to student loans, stressed Isabel Pfeiffer-Poensgen, Minister of Science of North Rhine-Westphalia (independent).
So far, student loans could also be applied for on the computer. However, the process is still very much based on filling out classic paper forms. The new portal is clearer. The personal information required for the application is queried step by step via an application wizard and entered automatically.
The completed student loan application can also be sent electronically directly via the portal without a signature, but only in connection with the online function of the identity card. The alternatives are: print out, sign, scan, upload or send it by post.
