Universidade da Coruña: Julio Abalde, rector of the UDC: “Face-to-face teaching is key in university training” | Radio Coruña | Today for A Coruña

He rector of the University of A Coruña, Julio Abalde, defends face-to-face teaching as an essential part of university training. Faced with the Xunta’s project to implement the digitalization of classes in a period of two to three years, taking advantage of the new situation posed by the health crisis, he points out that the UDC will launch a plan with which to take advantage of the digital tools they have had to be implemented in these months always to enrich and improve face-to-face teaching.

The Xunta has withdrawn its project, which it commissioned from FEUGA, a foundation with a strong presence of private companies, due to the radical opposition of the three Galician universities.

Abalde considers that the Xunta’s plan is a radical change in teaching methodology that prioritizes online classes. In his opinion, university education is also nourished by interpersonal relationships and life experiences on campus, if it can be improved with new technologies, he says, it will be even better.

The rector of the UDC, explains that the relations in the campuses, are also formation: both that is fundamental and is at the heart of the UDC, we will continue to maintain that this is what needs to be done on the campuses of A Coruña and Ferrol, because university life has to be done on campus. “

Despite the fact that the three universities are in the foundation, they did not know its content nor did they participate in its elaboration.
