The Swedish group Universal Kraft has the backing of the Galician government, which agreed at its weekly Council meeting to declare its project for As Pontes as a priority business initiative.
The hydrogen and ammonia production center promoted in As Pontes (A Coruña) by EsuH2 Mjolnir, from the Universal Kraft Group, will involve an investment of around 315 million euros, will create around 60 direct jobs and another 350 indirect ones.
The center, which will start its activity in 2026, will produce almost 100,000 tons of ammonia per year that will be transported to a storage facility in the outer port of Ferrol, for subsequent export.
With this, the Xunta has already declared a total of 20 projects as priority business initiatives, a condition that allows them -under the protection of the Galician law of administrative simplification- to reduce deadlines in various procedures.
The synergy between both green elements is possible because the applications of ammonia go beyond the field of fertilizers. Specifically, it is an element that functions as a carrier of hydrogen energy.
Solar energy
The Xunta affirms that the promoters of the project foresee the creation of an integrated solar energy center.
The materialization of this initiative will allow the decarbonization of value chains and the local strategic industry, in addition to advancing in the global challenges linked to climate change.
