UNITED STATES: HOUSEHOLD MORALE IS IMPROVING

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The morale of U.S. households has improved more than expected since the beginning of August, the first results of the monthly survey from the University of Michigan showed on Friday.

Its confidence index rose to 55.1 after 51.5 in July when economists and analysts on average forecast a figure of 52.5 according to the Refinitiv consensus.

This much-watched barometer of consumer confidence fell to an all-time low of 50.0 in June.

The consumer judgment component on their current situation fell to 55.5 from 58.1 last month, but the outlook component rose to 54.9 from 47.3. The consensus gave them respectively at 59.0 and 48.4.
