The United Arab Emirates (UAE) postponed the country’s first Mars mission on Tuesday. The weather conditions in Japan would not be suitable for a rocket launch.
The UAE does not have its own launch capability and therefore uses the Tanegashima Space Center in Japan. The launch would start at 22.50 (Dutch time).
The Hope mission, the first interplanetary mission carried out by an Islamic country, has now been postponed for several days. The authorities want to make another attempt on Thursday at 10:43 PM (Dutch time).
The duration of the mission is set at approximately two years. It is expected to take about seven months for the VEA satellite to arrive on Mars. A distance of nearly 500 million kilometers must be covered.
The UAE wants to use satellite to study the atmosphere of Mars, as well as the weather and climate on the celestial body. With this, scientists hope to learn more about how Mars turned into the cold desert it is today.
The UAE Space Agency and the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center, in collaboration with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, have announced a delay of the Emirates Mars Mission’s Hope Probe launch due to the weather conditions at the launch site of Tanegashima Island in Japan.
