Unique! NASA discovers an alien planet capable of creating a new atmosphere

Suara.com – Recent analysis of the Space Telescope observations Hubble collected in 2017, revealed a alien planet which is able to produce a new atmosphere.

Called GJ 1132 b, the planet orbits a red dwarf star which is located about 41 light years from Earth and absorbs a lot of star radiation in the process of rotation.

“It’s very interesting because we believe the atmosphere we are detecting is now regenerating, so it could become a secondary atmosphere,” said Raissa Estrela, an exoplanet scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). NASA, quoted from Space.com, Monday (15/3/2021).

The atmosphere is a hard thing to maintain. For example, ancient Mars once had a thick atmosphere but most of its atmosphere is now lost after the Red Planet lost its magnetic field about 4 billion years ago.

The same thing can happen with exoplanets. Scientists think that after GJ 1132 b lost its basic atmosphere, which is rich in hydrogen and helium, it became an empty planet.

But Hubble’s observations show that, currently, GJ 1132 b is enveloped in a mixture of hydrogen, hydrogen cyanide, methane, and an aerosol-rich mist.

To understand what’s going on in planetary systems, scientists looked at GJ 1132 b’s close relationship with its star.

But because of the details of the planet’s orbits, the researchers suspect that the star is pulling GJ 1132 b strong enough that the planet warms up and that could produce a volcanically active world.

This new atmosphere can be generated from the gases that come out of the molten rock on the planet.

The team of experts hopes that NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope, currently slated for launch in the fall of this year, will be able to see the surface of GJ 1132 b in infrared light.
