Union poll: 8 percent of CNV members do not receive holiday pay from corona | NOW

8 percent of CNV members say their employer doesn’t want to pay them holiday pay because of the corona crisis, a union poll shows. If that percentage also applies to non-CNV members, this would mean that half a million working people in the Netherlands will not receive holiday pay.

Another 11 percent of CNV employees do not know whether their employer pays holiday pay. The poll was conducted among a representative group of seventeen hundred members, the union said.

“Holiday pay is, however, a legal right. We understand that many entrepreneurs are in severe weather. But unilateral deduction of holiday pay is not easy,” says CNV chairman Piet Fortuin. “Certainly not because many entrepreneurs now receive government support to continue to pay the salaries.”

Holiday pay can only be removed in consultation

Employers may only deduct holiday pay in consultation with the employee. “We therefore want to call on the fully working Netherlands to report to us if they do not receive holiday pay.” They can contact the Holiday Allowance Reporting Point.

CNV promises to enter into talks with companies that do not pay holiday pay. If that does not lead to anything, then the union may go to court, Fortuin threatens: “Certainly in companies where there appears to be no loss of turnover, or another good reason to postpone the holiday allowance. Then we will switch to more robust means. . “
