Union: Building cleaners in Gladbeck receive more money

There is more money in the new year for the approximately 3800 employees in the building cleaning industry from the Recklinghausen district. The lower wage limit for them will rise from the current EUR 10.80 to EUR 11.11 per hour.

In two further stages, the starting earnings will climb by a total of eleven percent to twelve euros by 2023. This is communicated by the IG Bauen-Agrar-Umwelt (IG BAU), which Gladbeck is also responsible for.

“The corona pandemic has shown how much cleanliness and hygiene are important in hospitals, schools and offices. The workers now receive fair recognition for their work under difficult conditions, ”the union said.

At the same time, skilled workers benefit: employees in operating room cleaning will see an increase of 8.7 percent by the year after next. Glass and facade cleaners receive a total of 7.6 percent more and earn 15.20 euros per hour after the third rate increase. There is also a collectively agreed Christmas bonus for union members, the union continues.

District chairman Georg Nießing advises cleaning staff in the region to check their January wage slips. “Especially those who work in the lowest wage group should look carefully.”
