Hitekno.com – Scientists and astronomer continue to do research on questions black hole in outer space there. Like most recently, there was also a small bendi named The Unicorn which is said to be not far from Earth.
According to astronomers, the black hole and the tiny object are only 1,500 light years from Earth.
The name has a double meaning. The black hole is in the constellation Monoceros (unicorn) and has a very low mass, about three times that of the Sun.
“Because the system is so unique and so weird, it fits the nickname The Unicorn, “said Tharindu Jayasinghe, a Ph.D. student in astronomy at The Ohio State University.
The Unicorn has a companion in the form of a red giant star that is almost dead.
The giant star has been observed by various instruments over the years, including NASA’s All Sky Automated Survey and Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite.
Jayasinghe and his colleagues found that the star was pulled by another object, changing its shape.
The team of experts determined that the object performing the pull was most likely a black hole.
“Just as the Moon’s gravity distorts Earth’s oceans, this black hole transforms the star into a spherical shape with one axis longer than the other,“said Todd Thompson, chair of the Ohio State astronomy department.
Reporting from Space.com, Friday (23/4/2021), very few super light black holes are known because they are so hard to find.
But efforts to find very low-mass black holes have increased significantly in recent years, so a team of experts can quickly learn more about this mysterious object.
Jayasinghe and his team report on The Unicorn’s findings in a paper published in the journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.
