Due to Corona 19, there is an increasing number of’Homters’ who exercise alone while watching social media such as YouTube or video on comprehensive programming channels indoors. Because there is no trainer, there are often cases of injuries due to insufficient preparation or excessive exercise. Sit-ups, a typical exercise, are effective in strengthening the abdominal muscles, but if you force them to do so, it may cause abdominal myofascial pain syndrome.

Abdominal pain may be caused by excessive exercise, but it appears in a variety of cases from acute, life-threatening diseases to chronic diseases resulting from dysfunction in a short time. Abdominal myofascial pain syndrome should be suspected if the cause is unknown even after various tests and medical treatment due to abdominal pain, and if there is chronic abdominal pain.

Myofascial pain syndrome is caused by excessive contraction of the muscle and local blood flow disorder resulting from persistent poor posture or repeated movement of certain movements. If the pain does not change when the stomach is pressed, and the pain increases when the pain is increased when the pain is pressed while lying down, bowing the head forward and pressing the abdominal muscles, it can be considered as abdominal myofascial pain syndrome. Usually, myofascial pain syndrome is treated with a pain-inducing point injection. In the case of the abdomen, the amount of abdominal muscle and subcutaneous fat differs from one person to another, so it is not easy to inject accurately, and if you pierce it deeply, there is a risk of stabbing the intestine. Therefore, it is necessary to accurately treat the abdominal muscles that cause pain using ultrasound.

Professor Dong-Hwi Kim of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Ansan Hospital, Korea University, confirmed the exact injection location using ultrasound in 55 patients with peritoneal fascia pain syndrome in 2011, and then confirmed that 28 out of 38 respondents (73.7%) did not experience pain after injection treatment. did. In this regard, from 2012 to 2018, an additional 100 patients with abdominal myofascial pain syndrome were treated with a pain-inducing point injection using ultrasound, and as a result, 77 (77%) patients had a moderate or higher effect on abdominal pain reduction, and twice. In December 2020, he published a paper in the Journal of Medicine, saying that pain is reduced even more during abnormal treatment.

Among the subjects of the study, there was a patient who complained of discomfort in daily life without finding any other cause even after having visited 50 hospitals for 30 years due to chronic abdominal pain and performed various tests. After the pain-causing point injection using ultrasound, there was an effect of reducing abdominal pain.

Professor Kim Dong-hui said, “If the cause of abdominal pain is chronically occurring, it is necessary to suspect abdominal myofascial pain syndrome,” he said. “Because the treatment varies depending on the severity of symptoms, it is necessary to take care so that it does not become chronic after receiving accurate treatment.”
