Bernese finance director Beatrice Simon (BDP) has reason to be happy: Instead of the budgeted 240, the canton of Bern will receive almost 484 million francs from the profit distribution of the Swiss National Bank (SNB). This corresponds to six times the usual amount, as the SNB announced on Friday evening.
“This is good news for all cantons,” says Beatrice Simon. “We are all heavily burdened by the expenses that the coronavirus crisis brought with it.” She is thinking about economic aid for hardship cases, compensation for hospitals from the first wave and the necessary protective material.
