There are two types of cholesterol found in the body, namely high-density lipoprotein ( HDL) or “good” cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein ( LDL) or “bad” cholesterol.

LDL cholesterol levels or Bad cholesterol Too high can cause narrowing and blockage in blood vessels.

This condition can reduce blood flow and increase the risk of heart attack or stroke.

While HDL or good cholesterol serves to transport LDL cholesterol from the blood to the liver and break it down to become waste that is discharged from the body.

That is why, HDL is also called good cholesterol. In contrast to LDL, high levels of HDL cholesterol can actually reduce the risk of heart disease.

Cholesterol levels in the body are measured in milligrams per deciliter (mg / dL). Cholesterol levels are said to be normal when below 200 mg / DL.

Normal LDL levels in the body must be below 100mg / dL. Whereas normal HDL levels must be above 40 mg / dL.

Meanwhile, the ratio between normal LDL and HDL must be below four. The lower the total ratio, the higher the cholesterol level in the body.
