Harvard Football Reaches FCS Playoffs for First Time in Program History
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard University football is heading to the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) playoffs for the first time in program history, following a dominant 10-0 regular season and an at-large bid announced Sunday afternoon. The Crimson will learn their opponent during the FCS Selection Show on Sunday evening.
This marks a watershed moment for a program steeped in Ivy League tradition but historically excluded from the national FCS postseason.Harvard’s perfect record, coupled with a strong strength of schedule, propelled them into contention, culminating in today’s announcement. The berth represents the culmination of a strategic rebuild under head coach Kevin Aurich, who took the helm in 2024.
Aurich inherited a program with a proud legacy but yearning for broader postseason success. His early impact, including a 16-2 record over his first 18 games, quickly resonated with both players and alumni. A key component of Aurich’s success has been fostering relationships with Harvard’s extensive alumni network, actively seeking their input and support.
“Any time anyone reaches out to me, I let them know, ‘Stop by and see me,'” Aurich said.”Any alum that I can meet, have them hear my vision for this program, I know it’s going to benefit me, because you know they are the ones who are supporting this program, allowing us to do the things we want to do.”
The Crimson’s journey to the playoffs wasn’t without challenges. Prior to Aurich’s arrival, Harvard had endured a three-game losing streak to yale, their longest in “The Game” in a quarter-century. Overcoming that rivalry slump, and building a consistent winner, has been central to Aurich’s tenure.
The FCS Selection Show will air Sunday evening, revealing Harvard’s first-round opponent and setting the stage for a historic playoff run. The program’s success is expected to further elevate its national profile and attract top recruits.
