“Uncovering the Mysteries of the Media World: An Inside Look at RTL Boulevard”

One of the questions Bridget answers is how long it takes to prepare a broadcast. The presenter explains in the podcast that an average working day for her starts at 9.30 am with an editorial meeting in which the show from the night before is reviewed and the episode of that evening is also discussed. From there everyone gets to work and by noon she leaves for Hilversum, where the RTL Boulevard studio is. “We – Luuk and I, the presenters – go into make-up early to rehearse. We do that without the experts, so without Rob,” she continues.

According to Luuk, things don’t always run smoothly during those rehearsals. And that mainly has to do with the autocue, the display on which the text of the presenters is placed. The presenters do not write these texts themselves, but they adapt them to their own words during rehearsals. And that takes a long time, especially with Bridget. “If you rehearse those lyrics, it will never go well for you,” Luuk tells her. “Because you are always watching: how could that sentence be better. So you very often stop halfway through your sentence because something is not right. (…) As soon as the broadcast starts, it actually goes flawless!”

“We only use those for the presentation texts. The conversations in between are not on the autocue,” Bridget clarifies.

After the broadcast, however, the day is not over yet. There are always reporters who are out in the evenings, for example for a film premiere. And of course RTL Boulevard can also be found online 24/7 seven days a week.
