Unair Lecturer: Heart Failure Can Be Caused by Overworking

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Teacher The Department of Cardiology and Vascular Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Airlangga University (FK Unair), Andrianto, said that one of the causes of a person experiencing heart failure is overwork.

“When someone runs profession too much (overwork), there is an increase in the burden on the heart beyond the normal load,” said Andrianto as quoted by Tempo from the page unair.ac.id, Monday, November 29, 2021.

According to Andrianto, the heart has a compensatory mechanism that functions to meet the body’s needs. This mechanism is the working power of the heart’s reserve which serves to overcome the excessive workload of the heart.

When someone experiences overworking, he said, the heart automatically activates this mechanism. If the compensatory mechanism of the heart has reached a certain point and overload occurs, it can lead to heart failure.

Heart failure is divided into two, namely acute heart failure and chronic heart failure. Acute heart failure occurs in a person who does not know that he has a certain heart disorder and then develops it suddenly.

While chronic heart failure, he added, has occurred for a long time in someone who has certain heart disorders accompanied by decreased heart function.

He confirmed Overwork or excessive activity resulting in acute heart failure. The balance of ability and maintenance of the heart’s burden must be maintained every day so that the risk of heart failure can be prevented.

The first prevention is by maintaining a healthy lifestyle, such as avoiding smoking, exercising regularly, and a diet low in fat and sodium.

By running a healthy lifestyle, he continued, a person can control the risk factors for hypertension, coronary heart disease, diabetes mellitus, high cholesterol, and obesity.

If you have been diagnosed with certain diseases, such as: hypertension, coronary heart disease, or diabetes mellitus, a person must take medication as recommended by a doctor. Regular checkups can also prevent heart failure in the future.
