António Guterres called on the international community to intensify efforts to vaccinate against the coronavirus.

All countries of the world must end military conflicts and focus on fighting a common enemy – the coronavirus pandemic. This was stated by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres during performances at the opening of the 76th session of the General Assembly on Tuesday, September 14.

“We are meeting at a time of great challenge and division, conflict and climate change, worsening poverty and inequality. The pandemic continues to threaten lives, living conditions and the future. These challenges are exacerbated by the division that threatens our world, the division between rich and poor,” the secretary general said.

According to him, all existing challenges and divisions are generated by people, and they can be overcome if the world community unites.

“Efforts must be intensified to vaccinate against coronavirus and respond to climate change. <...> The wars against each other must end, “Guterres stressed.

Recall that the 76th session of the UN General Assembly has started in New York. Among her main themes – problems of combating pandemic, climate change, as well as “food systems” and energy.
