At the end of next week, Spain will send six Leopard 2A4 tanks to Ukraine, reported kingdom’s ministry of defense. The preparation of tanks for shipment at the Santa Barbara Sistemas (SBS) plant of the European concern General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) was supervised by the country’s Minister of Defense Margarita Robles.
“The machines are in full working order. It remains to carry out the last fire tests, after which the work can be considered completed, ”SBS-GDELS Director General Juan Escriña told the minister. On the trip, Ms. Robles was accompanied by Ukrainian instructors, under whose guidance the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will master these tanks.
On March 13, Berlin and Madrid announced the completion of the training of the first groups of tankers trained in the handling of Western equipment. In addition to Spain, Germany, Sweden and Poland announced their intention to transfer German Leopard tanks to Kyiv (Warsaw has already transferred at least four vehicles to Ukraine).
