Meanwhile, the US information technology company Microsoft has warned that the cyber attack against Ukraine could be more devastating than it initially seemed.
Ukrainian authorities continue to investigate at night from Thursday to Friday cyber-attack websites of public authorities. As a result, the websites of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defense and several other institutions did not work for several hours.
Following the attack, a statement appeared on the websites of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense that hackers had stolen government and private data, but the Ukrainian Security Service denied the leak.
Authorities described the attack as one of the most serious in recent years. It happened a week ago when Western diplomats actively tried to prevent a new Russian military attack on Ukraine.
Ukraine’s digital transformation ministry said on Sunday that all evidence showed Russia’s guilt in the cyber attack.
The ministry says the cyber attack was part of Russia’s expanded hybrid war against Ukraine, which is also active in cyberspace and the information space.
Its purpose is to intimidate Ukrainian society and destabilize the country. In order to undermine confidence in the Ukrainian authorities, Russia is spreading false statements about the vulnerability of critical information infrastructure and the leakage of personal data of the Ukrainian population.
The ministry urges the people of Ukraine not to panic and not to react to the news that they could buy data that the hackers allegedly stole during Friday’s cyber attack.
Undersecretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Serhiy Demedyuk, said on Saturday that the websites of state institutions could have been hacked by a group of hackers linked to Belarusian special services.
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov has denied Russia’s involvement in the cyber attack.
“Russia has nothing to do with these cyber attacks. We have heard accusations that Russia is behind these attacks, but no evidence has been put on the table.
We see this as another false accusation against Russia. We are already accustomed to the fact that the Ukrainians blame Russia all over, even in bad weather in their country, “Peskov told CNN.
Cyber experts at Microsoft have discovered that dozens of Ukrainian government computer systems have been infected with dangerous malware disguised as a squeeze virus, but that its real purpose is to destroy data and render infected devices unusable.
Malware is likely to be embedded in the authorities’ computer systems during a cyber attack on Friday.
