UK relaxes corona rules: three households can celebrate Christmas | NOW

Residents of the United Kingdom will be allowed to congregate with a total of three households from 23 to 27 December for Christmas, the authorities report Tuesday. It is emphasized that these meetings should only take place in people’s homes, in places of worship or outside.

England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have jointly decided to ease the restrictions around Christmas for a number of days. Restrictions on travel within the UK are therefore temporarily lifted.

“People want to be with their loved ones and their loved ones on the most important holiday of the year,” said British Cabinet Secretary Michael Gove. Scottish Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon does warn that the virus is not on vacation. “Be careful,” she says. “Stay at home if you can.”

The holiday announcement comes after it was announced earlier in the day that 11,299 new positive corona tests have been registered in the United Kingdom in 24 hours. That is 27.6 percent less than last week’s average.

608 corona-related deaths were also reported Monday. As of last Wednesday, there are a total of 3,094, an increase of 4 percent compared to a week earlier. The United Kingdom has a total of 66,713 deaths with COVID-19 as the cause of death, making it the most corona deaths in Europe.
