UK MP stabbed to death in church

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – British MP David Amess was stabbed to death in a church in Essex. The incident happened when David was meeting with his supporters. Local police said the incident was part of a terrorist attack.

Amess, 69, is a member of Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Conservative Party. He was stabbed repeatedly while he was in the middle of the day at the Belfairs Methodist Church in Leigh-on-Sea, east of London.

The Metropolitan Police, who is leading the investigation into the incident, said in a statement on Saturday morning that there had been a murder in a terrorist incident. Initial investigations revealed that there were motivations associated with Islamic extremism.

A 25-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder, and detectives said specialist counter-terrorism officers were leading the initial investigation. The suspect is believed to have committed the crime alone.

“As part of the investigation, officers are currently conducting searches at two addresses in the London area and this is ongoing,” local police said.

Politicians have described the attack as an attack on democracy.

“David is a huge believer in this country and its future and we have lost today a great public servant and a friend and colleague we love so much,” said Johnson, who rushed back to London from the west of England after the news broke. .

Essex Constable Chief Constable Ben-Julian Harrington said police at the time did not believe there was a threat of a terrorist attack. So when armed police surrounded the church and the paramedics arrived, the MP was dead and lying on the church floor.

Harrington did not provide specifics about the murder. However, based on available data, this is the second attack on British MPs in their constituency in the last five years.
