UK May Require Vaccine Passports For Large Venues This Month

The UK is considering a requirement for vaccine passports to be shown for access to large venues starting this month, but has yet to decide whether implement injections in healthy schoolchildren.

“We are looking, at the end of September, when everyone has had the opportunity to be fully vaccinated, for the big places, places that could end up causing a real increase in infections, where we need to use the certification process,” said the Minister of vaccines, Nadhim Zahawi, in an interview with Sky News.

The government has not yet decided whether it will implement the vaccines for healthy children ages 12 to 15, but if the move is carried out, then parental consent would be needed, he said.

On Friday, the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization said the benefits of vaccination for healthy children in this age group were “marginally greater” than the known potential harms, though it recommended that the government ask UK medical directors. have their say about the decision.

Zahawi confirmed that the government is considering requiring all frontline healthcare personnel to have the Covid-19 vaccine, after the Sunday Telegraph reported that Health Secretary Sajid Javid is going ahead with plans. The government will hold a consultation before making a decision, Zahawi said.

He alluded to the need for a post-virus rebalancing amid reports that Prime Minister Boris Johnson is preparing to increase national insurance to fund a reform of the UK’s social care system.

“The safety net that this government has provided is recognized by the people,” he said. “It’s okay for us to try and make sure we get the system back to where it was.”

He said the government will reveal the details of its social care plan before the end of the year.
