UK gives Ukraine another £1 billion in military aid | NOW

The United Kingdom will provide Ukraine with an additional £1 billion (more than €1.16 billion) in military aid, the British government said on Wednesday, when NATO called Russia the greatest “immediate threat” to the West’s security.

The money will be used to boost Ukraine’s defense capabilities. It is spent on anti-aircraft systems, unmanned aerial vehicles, new electronic warfare equipment and equipment for Ukrainian soldiers.

“Weapons, equipment and training from the UK will allow Ukraine to better defend itself against this attack. And we will stand firmly behind the Ukrainian people to ensure Putin fails in Ukraine,” Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in a statement.

The latest funding follows the UK’s announcement in May to provide additional £1.3 billion in military aid and aid to Ukraine, bringing the United Kingdom’s total military and economic aid to £3.8 billion this year.

Ukrainian troops have also begun training in Britain after Johnson offered to set up a major operation with the potential to train up to 10,000 soldiers every 120 days.

At a NATO summit focused on the Russian invasion, which Moscow says is a “special military operation” to liberate Ukraine from dangerous nationalists, NATO endorsed plans to modernize Kyiv’s armed forces, saying it fully supported the Ukrainians’ “heroic defense of the country”.
