(London, Brussels = Yonhap News) Correspondent Park Daehan Kim Jong-un = Britain and the European Union (EU) decided to continue negotiations on future relations including a trade agreement on the 13th (local time).

Initially, the two sides set Sunday as the deadline for deciding whether to agree or not.

However, with no agreement reached yet, they decided to negotiate a little more to prevent the catastrophe of’no deal’ Brexit.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Executive Chairman Ursula Ponderaien, head of the EU administration, made the same statement in a joint statement issued after the morning call.

The statement said, “We made a helpful call this morning,” and “we discussed a major issue that has not yet been resolved.”

“Our negotiating team has been working day and night for the last few days,” he said. “Although we thoroughly reviewed the negotiations for almost a year, and the deadline has passed several times, I think we have a responsibility to put more efforts now. “Do it”.

The statement explained, “Accordingly, we instructed the negotiation team to continue negotiations and see if an agreement is possible even at a late stage.”

As the two sides failed to reduce their disagreement on the main issues of the negotiations, Prime Minister Johnson went to Brussels, Belgium on the 9th, and held a dinner meeting with Executive Chairman Ponderleyen.

Afterwards, the two sides decided to make a definite decision on the future of the negotiations by the 13th after further negotiations.

However, in the later negotiations, there were also observations that the two sides could not completely narrow the differences of opinion, and that a final breakdown of negotiations and a’no deal’ declaration could be announced on this day.

It is noteworthy whether the two sides will make additional efforts on this day and will reach a final agreement in the next few days.

Prime Minister Johnson decided to convene the ministers to discuss the decision after the joint statement was issued.

Earlier, the UK withdrew from the EU at the end of January, the so-called Brexit.

However, for a smooth transition, we set a period of transition to Brexit until the end of the year to keep everything in the same state as before.

The two sides must conclude negotiations on future relations, including trade agreements, during the transition period, but despite nine months of negotiations, the two sides are concerned with three major issues: level playing field, governance (to resolve future disputes), and fishing. There is a big difference in admission.

If an agreement is not reached by the end of the year, trade barriers such as tariffs will occur, and the situation will be similar to the’no deal’ Brexit, where the UK leaves the EU without any agreement.
