The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has no clash with Russian football due to armed aggression in Ukraine. Russian clubs will not be able to participate in next season’s European Cups and the ban will also affect national teams. The men’s national team will not take part in the League of Nations, the European Under-21 Championship and the penalty will be met by women who will not be able to run the European Championship, where they will be replaced by the Portuguese, and will not compete in the World Cup qualifiers.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine began on February 24 and is still ending. It is therefore clear that sanctions against the country led by Vladimir Putin continue. It is now officially clear that Russian football clubs and national teams will feel it next season. “Russian clubs will not take part in all UEFA competitions next season,“reads in an official statement.
What does this mean for Czech clubs? The national coefficient includes Slavia, Sparta, Pilsen and co. 17th place for next season. The elimination of Russia will then move them one place higher, which will not affect the increase in Czech participants, so next year we will see four Czech clubs. The only significant change may be that the winner of the national cup will join the preliminary round of the European League, instead of the Conference League. However, UEFA has not yet officially confirmed this privilege for Czech clubs.
Monday’s UEFA regulation will also fundamentally affect Russia’s national team. The men’s national team has previously been disqualified from the World Cup playoffs and will not join the League of Nations next season. The ban also affects women’s football. At the European Championships in July, they will be replaced by the Portuguese and they will not be able to fight for the next World Cup qualifiers. The punishment will also go away with youth and futsal selections.
The on-going suspension of Russian teams and clubs also impacts other competitions, including the Nations League, Under-21 EURO, Women’s World Cup qualifying, youth and futsal tournaments.

The Russians can also forget about hosting the European Championships in 2028 and 2032, which they originally wanted to apply for.
The football season in Ukraine ended prematurely due to the war:
