Great news from UEFA: supporters are welcome again at European matches with immediate effect. That is potentially good news for the Dutch national team, Ajax, Feyenoord, AZ and PSV.
UEFA reports that a maximum of thirty percent of the stadium capacity may be used for matches in the Nations League, Champions League and Europa League. Whether that happens depends on the local authorities. This week, the cabinet announced that all sports matches in the Netherlands are prohibited for spectators for the next three weeks.
The European Super Cup match between Bayern Munich and Seville convinced UEFA to allow supporters again, according to the website of the European Football Association. Supporters of the visiting club are not welcome.
UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin speaks of a ‘logical decision’. “We all face the same enemy: the coronavirus. Every country has a different approach, but this decision allows us to be more flexible,” he said. “In these difficult times it is important to bring hope and passion back into the lives of football fans.”
NEWS: Following the successful pilot match that was held at the #SuperCup in Budapest on 24 September, UEFA will allow the partial return of spectators for UEFA matches where local laws permit, starting from next week’s national team games.
