UCI takes action after horror crash Fabio Jakobsen | Cycling

sport">The UCI is doing this following a number of heavy falls in recent weeks, such as the one in the Tour of Poland where Fabio Jakobsen was the main victim. The Dutch sprinter was stuck at high speed by Dylan Groenewegen and flew through the gates, causing heavy physical damage. The UCI has yet to decide whether Groenewegen will be punished for this.

sport">Remco Evenepoel, Steven Kruijswijk, Maximilian Schachmann and Emanuel Buchmann also crashed heavily on dangerous or poorly secured courses in recent weeks. The organizers and the UCI received a lot of criticism from the riders.

sport">“Although risks are part of our sport, the UCI cannot tolerate the fact that the accidents of recent weeks were often caused by riders not respecting the safety rules,” the federation writes on the website. “There have been too many serious crashes recently. The UCI knows that the riders are angry. We are therefore working with the riders, teams and organizers on a reform of the safety measures. ”

sport">The UCI says it wants to make use of new technologies, among other things. The federation will also inspect more closely whether the safety measures in the races are sufficient. The cycling association also wants to tighten up the sanctions for violation of the rules.
